Ian Waller
Appointed by: Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
Ian Waller is a tenant farmer at Hampden Bottom Farm near Great Missenden. He runs a mainly arable enterprise, growing milling wheat, oilseed rape and spring beans on 1200 acres. He has regularly participated in Open Farm Sunday to help the public get an understanding of farming and where their food comes from. He is also committed to caring for the environment and much of the farm is in the Government’s agri-environment scheme known as Higher Level Stewardship. Ian encourages farmland birds by sowing seed-rich plots and cutting hedges late in winter to maximise the berry crop. He also has a flock of Herdwick sheep which graze valuable chalk downland on the farm and are loaned to a local conservation body to graze their site.
Currently Ian is Chairman of the Berks Bucks and Oxon National Farmers Union.
