Chilterns Food & Drink – Open for Business

Our wonderful Chilterns producers have been busy finding enterprising ways to safely provide you with their goods during the current Coronavirus situation. Everything from cheese hatches, drive-through breweries, self-service points and scrumptious food boxes.

You can still enjoy a Taste of the Chilterns whilst supporting our Chilterns independents at this difficult time. But please heed Government advice, only go out for absolute essentials, wear a mask and adhere to social distancing regulations. And check producers’ websites for most up to date information.

Henley, Marlow and the Hambleden Valley

The Henley Larder, which opened recently in the former Henley Coffee Shop, has pledged to stay open during lockdown selling homemade cakes, bread, cheeses, pastries and a range of bottled drinks. The stock has all been locally sourced.

Just on the edge of the Hambleden Valley, Laceys Farm shop & butchery is open Tuesday to Saturday plus relaunching their click & collect service for fruit, vegetable and meat boxes. The shop is stuffed full of local goodies in addition to the milk, cream and dairy products from the Lacey family’s beautiful herd of pedigree Guernsey cows. The Chiltern Valley Winery has suspended tours during lockdown but the shop is still open with all appropriate measures in place.

The Ten Mile Menu delivers organic veg and meat boxes within Oxfordshire and the central Chilterns. ‘Born, bred and grown on local farms’ they offer a fabulous selection of produce grown locally.

Rebellion Brewery, in Marlow, is still open with various Covid-safe ways to shop.

The central Chilterns

The bountiful countryside of the central Chilterns is blessed with breweries, farmshops, grass-fed lamb and beef and a host of other local produce from honey to charcuterie. You can still enjoy the fat of the land with many producers now geared up for home delivery or safe collection including:

No 2 Pound Street in Wendover are still open for retail business and home delivery service for cheese and wine.  FREE delivery to Wendover residents or £1 for deliveries up to 10 miles from the shop.

The Chiltern Brewery near Wendover is the oldest independent brewery in the Chilterns. They have an on-line shop where you can click and collect and are offering a Local Delivery Service (currently within a 20 mile radius of The Brewery).

Get your staples, in the stables! The Kings Head Food Hall in Aylesbury town centre, located in the old stables, is stocked with essentials such as eggs, bread, milk, fruit and vegetables from local producers. Shop in person, click & collect or online for home delivery.

Our friends at Spinneys Harvest are happy to deliver their honey free of charge in the Chesham area (minimum 3 jars) – their range includes runny, set and infused honey.

Peterley Manor Farm in Prestwood is operating a Click & Collect Service, with designated collection time slots, in order to reduce social contact and the Wild Strawberry Cafe is offering “Pick Up Picnics”, Afternoon Teas and other packages in order to keep a slice of the yurt going through these strange times.

Puddingstone Distillery is the first gin distillery based in the Chiltern Hills and producers of award winning Campfire Gin. If you can’t decide between their London dry, Campfire Old Tom or Cask aged then why not buy a gift pack with all three!

Orchard View Farm near Princes Risborough. You won’t be able to visit the pigs for a little while, but you can order freshly made meals, produce packs, meat from the butchery and essential items such as bread, veggies, eggs and milk, all from local suppliers. They will deliver within a few miles’ radius and are operating a click & collect system.

Malt the Brewery in Prestwood will deliver their own ales and craft beers along with wine, artisan spirits and snacks including ‘the hot one’ – check their online shop to find out more! Delivery 5 days a week within a few miles’ radius.

Buckmoorend near Wendover is a family-run farm and shop rearing their own free-range pork, beef and lamb as well as a good range of local produce, pies and home-cooked meals. They will deliver anything they stock within a few miles radius.

The hugely popular Risborough Basket is going from strength to strength, with many retailers in and around Princes Risborough participating. Shop on-line for free same-day local delivery on a range of produce including bread, fruit and vegetables.

Watlington, Thame and Stokenchurch

Watlington is proud of its tightknit community and wonderful selection of independent shops, cafes, baker, butcher and Undercroft market. A number of businesses are now offering home delivery or click and collect, including the Granary Deli and Café who are offering a Friday night takeaway supper club. A few miles down the road in Kingston Blount, the Lockdown Larder at Kingston Blount Farm is new on the scene, offering self-service eggs, milk and flour.

In the Radnage area the Crown at Radnage will deliver pizzas locally, tel 01494 482301, the Country Store at Bledlow Ridge is well stocked with food, drink and household provisions and do deliveries tel 01494 481369. And Daws Hill vineyard will deliver their excellent Radnage Valley wines to your door, see their facebook page for details.

The Thame Reward Club is encouring people to support businessses in the lovely market town of Thames. They have compiled a list of farmshops, restaurants and shops in and around the Thame area, which are open for business and have adapted their offers. Many of these are in the Chilterns.

Tring and the northern Chilterns

Side pocket for a toad anyone? Tring Brewery is offering BEER TO YOUR CAR, orders must be booked in advance via website or tel 01442 89072. 1

Grooms farm shop near Ivinghoe  is  offering click and collect on a wide range of local food and drink, including home-reared lamb, local game, veg, deli and home-cooked meals.

For fresh local produce, Tring Farmers Markets is still running its fortnightly markets for food essentials only (2nd and 4th Saturday of the month), whilst Dunsley Farm Shop, Tring  and Meads Farm Shop (Wilstone) are also still open for business.  All are taking appropriate precautions.

The award winning Wigginton Community shop near Tring is open Monday to Saturday. They are well stocked with with fresh fruit, veg and bread, a range of local produce and some household essentials. The cafe is open for takeaway only, and they offer a delivery service for those who are self isolating or shielding.
